Junior Concrete Inspector
Our New York client, a nationally recognized special-inspection and engineering firm, is hiring a Junior Concrete Inspector to support concrete placement on high-rise and metro-infrastructure projects across the five boroughs. New York is one of the most demanding construction environments in the country — vertical builds, congested sites, specialty and high-performance mixes, and strict DOB special-inspection requirements. In this entry-level role you'll work directly under senior inspectors on complex pours, learning the trade on some of the most challenging concrete work anywhere. It's a rare opportunity to build your career where the standards are highest.
About the Role
A typical day puts you on an active high-rise or infrastructure site, assisting a senior inspector with fresh-concrete testing, pour monitoring, and documentation while you learn how complex placements come together. You'll sample concrete, run slump, air, and temperature tests, cast cylinders, and watch how senior staff handle specialty mixes, pump placements, and tight urban logistics. You'll interact with contractors, project engineers, and the senior inspectors who mentor you, and you'll see firsthand how the NYC DOB special-inspection process works from the ground up.
Success at six months looks like this: you're running routine fresh-concrete testing independently, your field notes and daily reports are clear and reliable, senior inspectors trust you to cover straightforward placements on your own, and you've begun to understand high-performance and mass-concrete pours. You'll know your way around congested NYC sites, the local labs, and the documentation standards that DOB work demands.
What You'll Do
- Assist senior inspectors with concrete placement monitoring on high-rise and infrastructure projects
- Perform slump, air content, unit weight, and concrete temperature tests per ASTM C143, C231, C138, and C1064
- Cast, label, and field-cure compressive-strength cylinders and coordinate delivery to the laboratory
- Observe placement, consolidation, and finishing on specialty and high-performance mixes
- Verify reinforcing steel and embedded items against approved drawings before placement
- Support documentation for NYC DOB special-inspection requirements under senior guidance
- Write clear daily field reports capturing placement conditions, test results, and observations
- Help coordinate pours within tight urban site logistics — pump placements, limited staging, and street constraints
- Maintain and calibrate field testing equipment and keep accurate records
