Senior Concrete Inspector
Our New York client, a nationally recognized special-inspection and engineering firm, is seeking a Senior Concrete Inspector to lead concrete quality on large, complex building and infrastructure projects across the five boroughs and the greater metro area. New York's construction environment is among the most demanding in the country — high-performance concrete, supertall structures, aggressive schedules, tight logistics, and some of the strictest inspection requirements anywhere. This is a senior role for an inspector who can own quality on high-profile work, lead a team, and be the trusted technical authority in the room. Your judgment will directly protect public safety and your client's reputation.
About the Role
On a typical day you'll move between active placements and the project trailer, directing the inspection coverage for one or more major sites, reviewing your team's reports, and resolving the technical questions that inevitably come up on complex pours. You'll interface daily with project engineers, the engineer of record, building officials and DOB-approved agencies, owner's representatives, and senior contractor staff. Where a junior inspector tests and documents, you set the strategy: which elements get inspected, how high-performance and mass-concrete pours are monitored, and how non-conformances are escalated and resolved.
Success at six months means your inspection program runs smoothly across all assigned projects, your team's documentation is audit-ready and defensible, building officials and clients trust your firm because of how you operate, and you've become the go-to advisor for the toughest concrete questions on the job. You'll have established repeatable inspection protocols that raise the quality and consistency of the whole team's work.
What You'll Do
- Develop comprehensive inspection strategies and quality plans tailored to each project's scope, schedule, and specifications
- Lead and coordinate teams of inspectors across one or more large, concurrent projects
- Conduct and oversee advanced inspections of specialized concrete elements, high-performance mixes, and mass-concrete placements
- Review, approve, and audit field reports and documentation prepared by junior staff for accuracy and defensibility
- Oversee concrete testing programs and verify laboratory compliance, equipment calibration, and data integrity
- Interpret complex structural drawings, specifications, and NYC Building Code / DOB special-inspection requirements
- Interface with building officials, the engineer of record, owners, and contractors on quality issues and corrective actions
- Lead investigation and resolution of non-conformances, including repair-procedure review and documentation
- Mentor junior and mid-level inspectors and help develop the team's technical capabilities
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field, or equivalent inspection experience
- PE license or equivalent professional credential
- 6–7 years of concrete inspection experience, including senior-level work on large, complex projects
- Deep knowledge of high-performance concrete, mass concrete, and complex placement methods
- Strong project-management, team-leadership, and client-facing communication skills
- Valid driver's license
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician — Grade I (mandatory)
Preferred Qualifications
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician — Grade II and ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector
- ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector and/or NYC DOB Special Inspector qualifications
- Experience with supertall, infrastructure, or transit projects
- Familiarity with post-tensioned and high-strength concrete inspection
- Working knowledge of digital QA/QC and inspection-management platforms
What We Offer
- Competitive salary of $110,000–$150,000, commensurate with experience and certifications
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Generous paid time off, paid holidays, and parental leave
- 401(k) with company match
- Annual professional-development budget and full ACI/ICC certification reimbursement (exams and renewals)
- Transit allowance or mileage reimbursement, plus all field equipment and PPE provided
