Senior Concrete Inspector
Our San Francisco client, a leading Bay Area special-inspection firm, is seeking a Senior Concrete Inspector to lead inspection on major construction projects across the region. The Bay Area combines high-value commercial and institutional work with strict seismic requirements, making strong inspection leadership essential. This is a role for an experienced inspector who can run a team, own the inspection plan, and serve as the quality point of contact for a project's engineers and clients. You'll set the standard the rest of the team follows.
About the Role
Your days will be split between the field and coordination: assigning and supporting your inspectors, reviewing and approving their reports, conducting advanced testing, and meeting with engineers, architects, and client representatives on quality matters. You'll own the inspection and quality-control plan for your projects and drive corrective actions when non-conforming work appears. Seismic detailing, high reinforcement congestion, and demanding schedules are routine here.
By six months your team will be running smoothly across assigned projects, your documentation will be audit-ready, and clients will rely on your firm because of how your team operates. You'll have mentored your inspectors into more consistent, confident performers.
What You'll Do
- Lead and assign a team of inspectors across one or more large active projects
- Develop inspection plans and quality-control procedures aligned with project specifications
- Conduct and verify advanced concrete testing, confirming laboratory results meet design requirements
- Review and approve all field reports and documentation prepared by junior staff
- Implement and verify corrective actions for non-conforming work
- Coordinate directly with project engineers, architects, and client representatives on quality matters
- Oversee inspection of seismic detailing and congested reinforcement
- Manage inspection schedules and coordinate with the construction schedule to prevent delays
- Mentor junior inspectors in proper techniques and professional standards
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field, or equivalent inspection experience
- PE license or equivalent professional credential
- 6–7 years of concrete inspection experience, including team leadership
- Knowledge of seismic detailing and Bay Area inspection requirements
- Excellent project-management and client-communication skills
- Valid driver's license
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician — Grade I (mandatory)
Preferred Qualifications
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician — Grade II and ACI Concrete Construction Special Inspector
- ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector certification
- DSA (Division of the State Architect) project experience
- Experience with post-tensioned and high-strength concrete
- Working knowledge of digital QA/QC and inspection-management platforms
What We Offer
- Competitive salary of $105,000–$145,000, commensurate with experience and certifications
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Generous paid time off, paid holidays, and parental leave
- 401(k) with company match
- Annual professional-development budget and full ACI/ICC certification reimbursement (exams and renewals)
- Company vehicle or mileage allowance for job-site travel, plus all field equipment and PPE provided
